Dental Hygiene Tips

Staying healthy, fit and active is of the utmost importance today. Having a lifestyle that does not promote healthiness, which makes you sluggish and unhealthy, is something you should never consider for your living. All the more, something that brings down your beautiful smile should definitely be avoided under all circumstances. Dental hygiene, in no case, is a matter to be taken for granted.

Dental hygiene is a necessity of today. A set of healthy and shiny teeth, coupled with freshness and good breath, is the basic standard for a good personality. I have poor dental health, then it dims your radiance and corrodes your persona. In order to keep others from misjudging you to be a careless being, we suggest the following for you to take up as minute changes in your daily routine:

  1. Brush twice a day, daily

It is highly imperative to brush twice a day, daily. Most of the readers might think of it to be an over-exaggeration and may also consider brushing just once to be more than sufficient. However, recent studies prove that this practice leads to a heavy accumulation of plaque due to the unattended presence of dinner food debris decaying overnight. By the time the next brushing interval arises, most of this decay solidifies, forming plaque over the teeth’s surface.

Brushing daily with a soft-bristled brush is a must for healthy white teeth. Brushing should be an exercise of 2-3 minutes involving a variety of strokes, cleaning both the sides of the teeth and in-between them too. Cleaning the tongue and the upper palate is also desirable. Even though it might sound like a lot but it also recommended for you to change your toothbrush every 3 months for them to clean your teeth effectively. Not doing so, will be just like cleaning a dirty window with a dirty cloth!

  1. Consider Flossing

Since we, being Indians, are major lovers of chips and biscuits, we hardly ever go around without munching on a snack that fills up the gaps between our teeth. Where to do such food leftovers go? Well, they stay right there and rot in-between our teeth only. Not getting rid of such food debris will only make our breath smelly and teeth rusty. Dentists recommend flossing for the same purpose. Flossing in-between the teeth helps remove all such leftovers and gives us plaque-free teeth.

It is said that flossing should be undertaken once in 3 days, at least. We being highly ignorant and completely new to all this, will definitely not try going to the chemist and buying a roll of floss. Therefore, we recommend you to take baby steps to dental hygiene. Startup with a weekly flossing routine, that is, every Sunday evening. It is just a slight change in your schedule which will help you move further towards happier teeth.

  1. Sugar is BAD

Being great lovers of food, we will never skip a meal. We will also not go by without having something sweet for dessert after one! Even though it is festive for our tongue and mind, it is disastrous for our teeth! Sugar is the worst for oral hygiene if we consume it more than the regular limits which we, without a doubt, do.

Sugar attracts acid-producing bacteria to feed on it and leave acid as a leftover. This acid leads to tooth decay. Consuming sugar in foods like chocolate, candies, ice cream, sweets, sweetened cereals, sugary drinks(like cola, energy drinks, and fruit juices), etc. can do more harm than good. One must always avoid sugar and aim for fiber instead.

  1. Stop smoking

Smoking in any and all forms is a nightmare for your teeth, gums, and tongue. Smoking cigarettes, cigar, hookah, bidi, etc. leave out smoker’s stains on your teeth. These are best described to be the same as spilling tar over clothes. The same stain will be there on your teeth’s enamel.

When the advertisements on TV mention smoking to be injurious to health, they include dental health too. Stop smoking and start living!

  1. Visit your Dentist

Paying visits to the dentists can never be a waste of time. It is found that most of the root canal cavity cases are just regular cavities that went unattended. In case you skip the appointments, you will have to visit the dentist eventually, for a more torturous and costly procedure. Why not save yourself the pain and visit them as soon as possible.
